What to do after an auto accident? I always tell patients to make sure you call your insurance company. Let them know that you were in an accident, whether you are at fault, not at fault, if you hit something or somebody hit you. Make sure you always contact your insurance and inform them you were in an accident. Typically they will give you a claim number for that accident. If your accident is severe, I always recommend going to the ER, a walk-in clinic. If your accident isn’t that severe, if it’s a minor fender bender or a smaller scale accident, give our office a call and we will be able to set you up for your initial appointment. What to experience the day after is a lot of achy muscles, tight stiffness. You may have some headaches, some migraines. Sometimes you may not have any pain at all. Typically we will see that pain levels rise over the next 14 days. So two weeks after the accident, the body’s sympathetic nervous system starts coming down because you created a fight or flight situation of a hard impact and that puts the body into a stress response. As that response decreases, your body will become more aware of all the pains and aches from the auto accident you were just involved in. Again, if you were in a severe accident, go to the ER. Go to a walk-in clinic. If it’s not so severe, give us a call and we will be glad to get you in. We will go over a consultation and we will get you set up on the right treatments to get your pains and aches handled.
